ESTHER GELLER INTERVIEW

Video

My video work is in collaboration with my husband, Adam Schorn, an IT and digital media consultant. Most of the work was generated in response to a specific project or exhibition: in particular Atomic Playboy, Girrrls, Island Spirit and an interview with pioneering encaustic artist Esther Geller.

Atomic Playboy, a video about the atomic bomb tests on the Bikini Atoll in 1946, included figures that interacted with the projection. It was shown at the Art Center At Newton in the exhibition 1939: the Missing Year. For Girrrls our young nieces were encouraged to interact with blue paint. Using their entire bodies to paint on a floor came naturally to them, unrehearsed and spontaneous in a way that is magical to watch. Girrrls was shown at the Katherine Schulz Gallery at the Cambridge Art Association. Island Spirits was produced   in connection with the Bumpkin Island Project, an environmental installation on one of the islands in Boston Harbor. The film traces the appearance, then disappearance of various groups that inhabited or used the Island over time. The film was shown at Gallery Soto in Boston. The interview with Ms. Geller was shown as part of the Encaustic Art In The 21st Century international exhibition at the Boston Center for the Arts, Boston.
